Clay County Sports Authority

As the Senate focuses on the budget this week, I’m happy to talk to you about a bill I strongly support and hope to help cross the finish line in the final weeks of session – Senate Bill 710, which was combined with my own Senate Bill 713.

This bill would establish a Clay County Sports Authority, allowing for training facilities, stadiums or a number of other sports complexes to be managed and built within Clay county. It would also establish a fund to help run said facilities.

I believe this bill is important to help give options to Kansas City’s professional sports teams, the Royals and Chiefs, as well as other potential professional teams. On top of inspiring and entertaining Missouri fans, these teams help to bolster the economy and bring tourism to Missouri. It only makes sense to help support them in order to continue to gain these benefits.

We love these teams and we want them in Missouri. I think it’s important to help show our support for them and providing more options for their growth is one of the ways we can do that.
