Talking Budget

This week a top priority of the Senate was passing the State Budget. The Missouri Constitution requires the General assembly to pass a balanced budget by May 9. So, this time of year the budget becomes the top priority to get through the chamber so we still have time to hold conference committee hearings with the State House of Representatives.

Every year, education is a hot-button issue with many strong opinions on how best to educate Missouri’s kids. Everyone wants to fund education, but the method and, specifically, the Foundation Formula, which calculates how much money school’s need, is a matter of a lot of debate.

Also included in the budget is the funding for various state agencies, infrastructure, current state projects and an assortment of other programs. I take this responsibility to allocate taxpayer funds very seriously and have worked hard to make sure they are being used correctly.
