Finishing the Budget The Senate has spent a large portion of their time this week on the budget, and I wanted to spend a little bit of time discussing parts of it with you. First off, one of my top priorities with the budget this year was education. The children of Missouri are filled with potential. The future is in their hands. They deserve a quality education – one that caters to their needs and helps them thrive. Which is why I have supported many of the efforts to properly fund education in this year’s budget. However, the current system is not working. Year after year, the costs to support education rise faster than the state can reasonably manage. A new solution must be found and a change made to the foundation formula. Finding a sustainable solution will be a large priority of the Senate in the coming years. Another budget item is the improvement to Kansas City infrastructure in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup next year. I believe the world cup will bring both pride and economic success to the region and am happy the legislature has decided to allocate funds to ensure its success. In addition, the budget will fund many state projects, agencies, grants, first responders, the medical system and the government as a whole. I am excited to share more about how this funding will help communities in the 21st District specifically in the coming weeks. If you have any questions please reach out to my office.
