Approaching the End of Session

Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley!

This past weekend I had the great honor of attending the grand opening of A Red Circle’s Creative Spot in Ferguson. This organization is focused on reclaiming our communities through art and creativity. I am proud of all they have accomplished, despite adversity, and stand with them in their efforts to heal North St. Louis.

This past week has been busy as the Senate finished the budget and began work on the final bills of the session. I have continued to oppose any bills that I feel go against the voice of voters or overlooks the needs of our community.

I was honored to attend a Missouri Jobs with Justice event to meet with working families from our area. I was especially touched thanks to the many who thanked me for standing strong on the Senate floor for paid sick leave and a higher minimum wage that they voted for in our last election. I believe the voice of the people is the ultimate authority and they have spoken.

As the session wraps up, I’d like to turn your attention to a town hall I will be hosting in our community at the end of the month. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this past week has been Children’s Mental Health Week, so the topic of discussion at this town hall will be children and their mental health. I hope this event will drive awareness, understanding and solutions. Missouri’s Department of Mental Health estimates in their 2024 Status Report on Missouri’s Substance Use and Mental Health that roughly 70,000 Missouri youth struggle with thoughts of suicide and 20,000 will attempt it each year. It is the third leading cause of death in our youth. This cannot continue and must be addressed.  I urge you to attend this town hall on May 29, so we can discuss this growing crisis.

Speaking of promising youth, I had the chance to welcome Alayah Townsend from Kaidos Academy who came to the Capitol to shadow me and learn about the legislative work we do here.

I hope you have a wonderful week and make sure to look over the various community events I have included at the end of the newsletter.
