Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of May 19, 2025

May 22, 2025
The 2025 legislative session ended on May 14. I am happy to report I was able to get many of my priorities across the legislative finish line this year, both with my bills and as the Senate handler of numerous House bills.
Senate Bill 1 will help several county officials, including public administrators, auditors and coroners. The governor has already signed this into law. It will take effect on Aug. 28.
Senate Bill 2 pertains to financial statements of certain local governments. It also reduces fines for certain political subdivisions.
Senate Bill 3 would make several changes to the Missouri Department of Revenue regarding contract license offices throughout the state. I believe this will result in many of our small fee offices being able to stay open.
Senate Bill 98 and House Bill 754 both contain multiple banking issues, including language that helps protect consumers from financial fraud.
House Bill 419 contains another bill I filed that would make it optional, instead of mandatory, for veterans to complete a Boots to Business course before they are eligible for a MO Bucks loan.
House Bills 974, 57, 1032 & 1141 would protect consumers by ensuring that all parties have adequate insurance coverage when leasing their vehicles to others.
House Bill 199 contains various bills I filed. They include pay raises for our circuit clerks, allowing the City of Nevada to vote on a public safety tax, and capping the amount vehicles valued at under $50,000 are assessed.
This session was a very successful one. The Senate worked together to pass a lot of good legislation.
I hope you will take a moment to remember our fallen soldiers as we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend. It is important to remember that this is not just a weekend that unofficially kicks off summer, it is a somber reminder of those who gave their life for our freedoms.
