Extra Session

Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley!

This past week I have been working back in the Capitol during the extraordinary session called for by the governor to help secure disaster relief funds for the parts of the St. Louis area impacted by the severe storms this year. I am happy to report that all three of the bills that passed, Senate Bill 1Senate Bill 3 and Senate Bill 4, each included provisions to help provide disaster relief.

The first, SB 1 also provides funds to pay for the Missouri University Research Reactor, a hugely beneficial tool used in cancer research, and other capital improvement projects. It also allows a number of state agencies to use funds for the purpose of disaster relief.

Senate Bill 3 provides disaster relief by creating a tax credit of up to $5,000 for next year that can be claimed by those impacted by a disaster this year to offset insurance deductibles. This bill also creates a mechanism that can be used by professional sports teams to help pay for up to 50% of stadium development or improvements.

Finally, SB 4 preemptively authorizes the use of federal funds to help assist with disaster recovery in the state.

Each of the bills will now go through the House of Representatives next week.

In addition, the Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans to help families, small businesses and non-profit organizations recover from the storms. Loans can be used for damaged homes, lost property or business recovery purposes. You can apply at sba.gov/disaster or call 800-659-2955.

Also, the Federal Emergency Management Agency funds have been authorized for a number of the severe storms already and the deadline to apply is July 10, 2025. You can apply at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.

This is also a reminder that I am hosting a town hall discussion on gun violence prevention on June 26. Gun violence is preventable and I believe we must do all we can to come together as a community to fight it. Doors open at 6 p.m. at:

Christ Our Redeemer Church

13820 Old Jamestown Road

St. Louis, MO 63033
