Listening to the People
Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley and happy Fourth of July!
This week the Senate Insurance and Banking Committee met to delve into the issues between the University of Missouri health care system and Anthem health insurance, which has caused a disruption of coverage for Missourians across the state. I hope a resolution will come from the Senate’s efforts.
Since my last column the Missouri State Girls visited the Capitol and I was honored to welcome then. I also held a town hall discussion on gun violence prevention to help us combat this problem in our community. The next community event I’ll be sponsoring is the Annual Community Resource Fair and Backpack Giveaway on Aug. 2. There will be food and backpacks while supplies last as well as information for utility assistance, Medicare and Medicaid, and workforce development. The event will go from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gymnasium at 1 James J. Eagan Drive, Florissant, MO 63033.
Also, the St. Louis County Cooling Shelter alongside the Salvation Army opened this week and will be open until Sept. 5. They are providing food, shelter and assistance to those who need it. You can call them at 211 and find the shelter at 10740 Page Ave, St. Louis, MO 63132
Finally, if you suffered damages from the tornados and storms earlier this year, please remember to request Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds through disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362. The deadline is fast approaching. According to information from the governor’s office the deadline for FEMA assistance for the March 14-15 storms is July 22 and the deadline for the storms on May 16 is Aug. 11. Be aware that the Disaster Recovery Center at Union Tabernacle M.B. Church on 626 N. Newstead Ave. is closed July 6-13.
