Bills Signed Into Law The past couple weeks have seen the official end of the Senate’s yearlong effort to turn legislation into law as the governor signs the bills passed during session. I am happy to report the governor signed each of my bills, and those that contained provisions from my legislation, that made it through the General Assembly. The first of which I’d like to talk about is Senate Bill 105. This bill addresses invasive plants in the state by restricting nurseries in Missouri from selling non-native invasive plants. These plants damage the natural ecosystem and burden landowners and agriculture. I have worked on this bill for the past few years and am happy to report the governor has signed it into law. I also had significant pieces of legislation attached to both Senate Bill 271 and House Bill 199, which the governor has also signed. Senate Bill 271 is an omnibus bill dealing with emergency services. My language reforming ambulance districts made up a significant portion of the legislation. It ensures all Missourians have access to quality and efficient EMT services when in their hour of need. Specifically, it increases the standard of training required by ambulance district boards and grants the Department of Health and Senior Services a greater ability to shutdown poorly performing districts, all while ensuring continuity of care. Bills don’t have to be flashy to be effective. This bill manages a few subtle details of how the government, and the services it provides to the people, operate. Yet, overtime this will have a positive impact on the lives of Missourians by ensuring they have access to quality care when they need it. In addition, I had two key components in HB 199, dealing with issues for the Lake of the Ozarks. The first allows the people of the village of Sunrise Beach to vote on a sales tax increase that would help fund their police department. It also contains provisions allowing the communities around the Lake of the Ozarks to organize an entertainment district. I believe both these provisions support the Lake region and help optimize its number one industry – tourism. The past few years the Missouri Senate has struggled to work through the issues we face, but I am happy to say this session has been more productive than most in recent years. I am proud of the work we accomplished, and I am happy with the legislation passed into law that helps the people of my district.
