Senator Barbara Anne Washington Invites Community to Mental Health Awareness Brunch

KANSAS CITY — Senator Barbara Anne Washington, D-Kansas City, cordially invites the Kansas City area community to attend the 12th Annual Minority Mental Health Awareness Event, “Brunch with Bebe’s Sisters,” on July 26, 2025. The free brunch begins at 9:30 a.m. at MCC-Penn Valley Education Center at 3201 SW Trafficway.

“Mental health impacts every single family in the country, but stigma around the disease keeps people from seeking help, especially in minority populations,” said Sen. Washington. “Please join us for an educational and inspirational discussion to help raise awareness and end the stigma.”

The focus of this year’s forum is “Mind Matters: Building Resilience after Trauma,” with a special emphasis on youth mental health. Dawn Harper-Nelson, a U.S. Olympic gold medalist, and a panel of community stakeholders will share their insights, the latest issues and tips for the community on how to take action and help those who are struggling.
